PPC IMAGINARIUM COMPETITION 2018

LIME

When one thinks of the combination of concrete and fashion, the vision of solid and hard forms come to mind and the question of whether it can be worn is first to be asked.

The main focus for this mini collection was to create wearable and movable textiles using cement in its very basic form to be made into fashionable garments that people would be able to wear comfortably. The soft, powder-like state of cement will be used on different types of fabric to create the illusion of rough and solid cement but maintain the natural soft feel of the fabric by merely fixing the powdered cement to the fabric with adhesive spray. Geometric inspired prints will be transferred onto the selected fabrics allowing majority of the fabric to be cement and pops of colour to shine through the negative spaces. Shades of pink and grey will be used to compliment the natural grey colour of the cement creating a subtle and muted colour scheme. This process of using cement to create a textile print is also environmentally friendly and water conscious. Dying fabrics uses a lot of water, a resource which is scarce, and the process that was used to create print on these garments uses no water at all.

The mini collection will consist of one male and female outfit that can be worn throughout the seasons when paired with other clothing items. The versaitility of the garments allows the wearer to mix and match and still maintain the fashionable and natural silhouettes of the garments even though they are made with cement.
